Are we going to start seeing ads everywhere on our beloved Twitter?
Twitter is the fastest growing web site and social-networking site, with all sorts from Stephen Fry to Barack Obama gathering hundreds of thousands of followers for their insightful tweets.Its popularity could be tripped up by with news that the most popular tweets could soon be carrying advertising.
According to Brand Republic advertising network Adjix has launched a new platform that allows text ads to be embedded within "tweets" (Twitter posts).
Advertisements could appear at the end of tweets from specific users, who are paid in return for choosing to carry them on their messages.
Advertisers set the price they are willing to pay for an ad and control under which Twitter user the ad appears, with geographic and demographic targeting.
Joe Moreno, Adjix founder, told Brand Republic: "This new ad format will be a great way for Twitter users to earn additional revenue, and its unobtrusive format won't annoy recipients, like some other Twitter ad programmes."
